About

Phillip Shellenberger

Web/Graphic Designer, Front-End & WordPress Developer
(aka: the man behind Black Locust Design)

My love for designing and building websites can be traced back to the days of dial-up internet and Photoshop 7.0. Logging on to the family HP after high school I’d spend hours designing AIM buddy icons and building websites on Geocities – and life was good. Fast forward 15+ years and life is still good, I could even say life is great. I’ve since moved on from the HP and Photoshop 7.0 and upgraded to a MacBook Pro with the entire Adobe CC Suite. I’ve also left Geocities in the past — WordPress, HTML and CSS are now my tools of choice.

These days I reside in the beautiful mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania with my wife, our 2 dogs, and 2 cats. Most days I’m lucky enough to work from home, which all the animals love. I am an outdoor enthusiast, although I don’t make it out to the wilderness as much as I’d like to. I recently completed a 2.5 day/40 mile backpacking trip with a good friend of mine (the same friend who actually gave me Photoshop 7.0 all those years ago), and it was an absolutely incredible experience that in many ways inspired the design of this website.

What is Black Locust Design?

Black Locust Design is more than just a guy building websites and making pretty things. It’s the culmination of a decade-long passion to create; it’s years of knowledge and experience being used to give my clients exactly what they want, need, and deserve – and making sure the finished product is something everyone involved can be proud of.
